7 Quick Takes (Vol.3)

(1) Awhile ago I conducted a little bit of completely anecdotal and non-scientific research, and I discovered that compared to other kinds of onions, red onions give you the nastiest onion breath for the longest amount of time. The other day I decided that my judgment had been a little harsh and I gave the red onion a second chance. All I did was confirm my original findings.

(2) The other day Isaac, Aidan, and I were playing in the basement and Isaac went upstairs to look for something to eat. He came down a few minutes later with 3 Girl Scout cookies -one for each of us. His thoughtfulness really struck me. I am pretty sure that if I found a box of Girl Scout cookies and no one was around I probably would have ate at least 3 cookies and not even thought about sharing with either of the boys.

(3) Last week I was with a friend and she was digging through her purse and she pulled out this big stack of gift cards that she got at her wedding (4 years ago!). I couldn't believe it - but then my mom told me that she read that over $8 billion worth of gift card went unused in 2007! I have never let a gift card go to waste - even ones that have like 70 cents left on them!

(4) My bridesmaid days are coming to a close. Zach's sister has asked me to be a bridesmaid in her wedding sometime this fall. This will be my 5th and (I am assuming) final time. Next to my own wedding - this is probably the wedding I have most been looking forward to.

(5) Isaac got a toy vacuum for his birthday, and he takes vacuuming seriously. He spends a good amount of time vacuuming each stair and moving furniture around so he can get under coffee tables and ottomans. It is so sweet of him. The only problem is that it hurts his feelings if I try to vacuum with the "real" vacuum afterwards - he thinks his vacuum really works.

(6) St. Anthony, the patron saint of lost items, has come to my rescue 4 times this past week. The first found item was my brother's really nice fishing pole. The other 3 times I lost my stupid night guard that I have to wear because I grind my teeth when I sleep. One time I put it in such a safe place that I forgot where that safe place was, the second time I put it in my pants pocket (what am I? In junior high?), and the third time it was in a pile of stuff that I looked through 15 times before humbly asking for St. Anthony's help again. It appeared out of nowhere.

(7) Dilemma I face about 10 times a day: The boys are suspiciously quiet. Do I check on them and potentially interrupt a nice moment between brothers where they are looking a book together or playing cars? But what if they are not sharing a nice moment? What if they are eating markers or wiping boogers on the wall or spreading Easter basket grass all over the place? I live for those 1 out of 10 times that I walk in the room and find two sweet angels building a tower of blocks instead of computer keyboard keys missing and an emptied box of Kleenex.

1. So funny! I think I heard somewhere that red onions ARE stronger than white. Your theory is correct!

2. That is SO sweet. They must be learning kindness even when you don't realize it!

6. I used to 'misplace' my retainers alot. Except it was usually because I did weird things in my sleep. I'd wake up without them in, and not know when or how they were removed. Only to find them behind my bedroom door. Or under the bed. Yikes. I hope I've grown out of that sleep walking habit, but I may never know unless things start to go missing again!
